Dance Style Descriptions - Please review descriptions of our Ballroom, Latin & Rhythm, and Swing Lesson Styles, as well as our Workshops!Ballroom - What are Ballroom dances? Ballroom dancing refers to a wide array of partner style dances, which are mostly danced in a social setting. Smooth or Standard Styles encompasses Foxtrot, Waltz, Quickstep, Viennese Waltz, and Tango, while Rhythm or Latin Styles include Swing/Jive, Rumba, Cha Cha, Samba, Mambo, Merengue, and other Rhythm styles such as Bolero, West Coast Swing, and Night Club 2-Step...Below are descriptions of our lesson offerings, which include various dance styles.Beginner BallroomIn Beginner Ballroom, we teach basic figures in Foxtrot and Waltz, beginning lead-follow, and beginner musicality, along with survival skills for the crowded dance floor. You might ask, who is a Beginner dancer? For my purposes, a Beginner dancer encompasses someone who does not know how to dance, up to someone who may know a few steps, but needs a refresher. No experience necessary, all dancers are welcome! Intermediate BallroomIn Intermediate Ballroom, we continue development of dance technique, lead-follow, and musicality, in conjunction with progressive amalgamations in American Style Foxtrot & Waltz. As a prerequisite, Beginner Ballroom or equivalent is recommended. Intermediate-2 BallroomIn Intermediate-2 Ballroom, we continue development of dance technique, lead-follow, and musicality, in conjunction with rhythm changes within more challenging amalgamations in American Style Foxtrot & Waltz. As a prerequisite, Intermediate Ballroom or equivalent is recommended. Advanced BallroomIn Advanced Ballroom, we focus on technique, lead-follow, and proper foot positioning in conjunction with a wide array of figures and amalgamations in American Style Foxtrot & Waltz emphasizing continuity styling. As a prerequisite, Intermediate Ballroom or equivalent is recommended. Beginner FoxtrotIn Beginner Foxtrot, we teach the basics of dance position, lead-follow, and musicality in conjunction with the basic figures in American Style social Foxtrot including Basic Step, Boxe Steps, and Promenades, along with survival skills for the crowded dance floor. No experience necessary, all dancers are welcome! Intermediate FoxtrotIn Intermediate Foxtrot, we add more complex amalgamations in American Style social Foxtrot. In addition we begin some attributes of proper ballroom dance technique. As a prerequisite, a Beginner Foxtrot or equivalent is recommended. Intermediate-2 FoxtrotFor Intermediate-2 Foxtrot, we emphasize technique, lead-follow, and styling in conjunction with more challenging amalgamations in American Style social Foxtrot. As a prerequisite, a Intermediate Foxtrot or equivalent is recommended. International Style FoxtrotFor International Style Foxtrot, there is a premium on technique. I recommend only intermediate to advanced ballroom dancers enroll in this class. Beginner Night Club 2-StepTired of just swaying to those slow songs? Well, in Beginner Night Club 2-Step we incorporate elements of Rumba and even Swing for a fun & easy way to slow dance to romantic musical ballads. No experience necessary, all dancers are welcome! Intermediate Night Club 2-StepIn Intermediate Night Club 2-Step, we add some more complex amalgamations and styling elements to make your slow dance fun! As a prerequisite, Beginner Night Club 2-Step, or equivalent is recommended. Advanced Night Club 2-StepIn Advanced Night Club 2-Step, we add a variety of fun and stylish amalgamations along with more technical elements to make your slow dance really shine! As a prerequisite, Intermediate Night Club 2-Step, or equivalent is recommended. Beginner QuickstepFor Beginner Quickstep, I teach the basics movements for this challenging dance, which allow the dancers to move freely around the dance floor. As a prerequisite, an Intermediate Ballroom or equivalent is recommended. In addition, dancers should be in very good physical condition for this highly aerobic dance. Beginner-2 QuickstepFor Beginner-2 Quickstep, we focus more on style and technique, while adding more challenging figures. As a prerequisite, an Beginner Quickstep is recommended. In addition, dancers should be in very good physical condition for this highly aerobic dance. Intermediate QuickstepFor Intermediate Quickstep, there is a premium on technique, form and styling. In this series, I teach not only the basics movements for this challenging dance, but we add, some fun amalgamation to really bring this dance alive! As a prerequisite, an Beginner Quickstep or equivalent is recommended. In addition, dancers should be in very good physical condition for this highly aerobic dance. Beginner TangoIn Beginner Tango, we teach basic steps in American Style social Tango, including the promenade, turning basic, a variety rocking steps, and the Corte'. Beginner-2 TangoIn Beginner-2 Tango, after a thorough review of Beginner figures, we add more complex figures and amalgamations in American Style social Tango, including including the the Closed Fan, Running Steps, and the Open Promenade with Under Arm Turn. Intermediate TangoIn Intermediate Tango, after a thorough review of Beginner-2 figures, we add more complex figures and amalgamations in American Style social Tango, including including the the Open Fan, Reverse Turn, and the Corte' with Pivots. Intermediate-2 TangoIn Intermediate-2 Tango, we teach more complex figures and amalgamations in American Style social Tango, including including the Checked Promenade, Doble Cruz, and La Lanzadera. Advanced TangoIn Advanced Tango, we teach more complex figures in American Style social Tango, with amalgamations including Pivots, Checks, Ronde's, and Spirals. Beginner Viennese WaltzFor Beginner Viennese Waltz, I teach the basics figures for this challenging dance. As a prerequisite, an Intermediate Ballroom class or equivalent is recommended. In addition, dancers should be in very good physical condition for this highly aerobic dance. Intermediate Viennese WaltzFor Intermediate Viennese Waltz, I teach more complex amalgamations and figures for this challenging dance. As a prerequisite, a Beginner V-Waltz or equivalent is recommended. In addition, dancers should be in very good physical condition for this highly aerobic dance. Intermediate-2 Viennese WaltzFor Intermediate-2 Viennese Waltz, I teach some fun open-partner combinations, and continue to develop dance fluency with tempos up to 60 MPM. As a prerequisite, Intermediate V-Waltz or equivalent is recommended. In addition, dancers should be in very good physical condition for this highly aerobic dance. Beginner Slow DanceTired of just swaying to those slow songs? Well, in Beginner Slow Dance we combine elements of Foxtrot and Night Club 2-Step for a fun & easy slow dance style. Beginner WaltzIn Beginner Waltz, we teach basic steps in American Style Waltz including the Box step, and Progressive, along with survival skills for the crowded dance floor. Intermediate WaltzIn Intermediate Waltz, we add more complex amalgamations in American Style Waltz including various Twinkles and the Zig Zag. In addition we begin some attributes of proper ballroom dance technique. As a prerequisite, Beginner Waltz or Ballroom or equivalent is recommended. Intermediate-2 WaltzIn Intermediate-2 Waltz, we introduce continuity styling in American Style Waltz. In addition, there is a focus on foot placement, rise & fall, sway & shaping, plus we continue to accentuate the attributes of proper ballroom dance technique. As a prerequisite, Intermediate Waltz, Intermediate Ballroom, or equivalent is recommended. Advanced WaltzIn Advanced Waltz, we continue with Silver Level figures with an emphasis on continuity styling and technique in American Style Waltz. In addition, there is a focus on foot placement, rise & fall, sway & shaping, plus we continue to accentuate the attributes of proper ballroom dance technique. As a prerequisite, Advanced Ballroom, Advanced Waltz or equivalent is recommended. Advanced-2 WaltzIn Advanced-2 Waltz, we complement Silver Level figures with new Gold Level figures, and with an emphasis on continuity styling in American Style Waltz. In addition, there is a focus on foot placement, rise & fall, sway & shaping, plus we continue to accentuate the attributes of proper ballroom dance technique. As a prerequisite, Advanced-2 Waltz or equivalent is recommended. International Style WaltzTechnique, dance form, and stylized movement are highlighted as we develop various Bronze Level amalgamations for this Standard Ballroom dance. As a prerequisite, Intermediate Ballroom, or equivalent is recommended. International Style Waltz-2Advanced technique, dance form, and stylized movement are highlighted as we develop further Silver Level amalgamations for this Standard Ballroom dance. As a prerequisite, International Style Waltz, or equivalent is recommended. International Style Ballroom - Foxtrot & WaltzYou may ask, "What is an International Style Ballroom lesson"? Latin dances are International Style and include Rumba, Cha Cha, Samba, Paso Doble, and Jive. Rhythm dances are American Style and include Rumba, Cha Cha, Mambo, Merengue, Bolero and many other dance styles. These dances are characterized by rhythmic, playful and even sensual movements in concert with an array of Latin beats.Beginner BoleroSo, what is Bolero? Bolero is a wonderful romantic style of ballroom dance
with elements of Rumba, a bit of Waltz, and even a touch of Tango! The music is
usually Latin, but Bolero is often danced with slower tempo "pop" ballads, so it
is very versatile. Intermediate BoleroIn Intermediate Bolero, we add more complex amalgamations with a variety of breaks, passes, and turns. There is also a greater emphasis on technique and styling. Beginner Bolero or equivalent is recommended as a prerequisite. Beginner (American Style) Cha ChaIn Beginner American Style Cha Cha, we introduce the basic movement, and a variety of breaks and turns. No experience necessary, all dancers are welcome! Intermediate Cha ChaIn Intermediate Cha Cha, we add more complex amalgamations to our International Style Cha Cha and further emphasize elements of Latin dance style & technique. Then we take these figures and attributes to a new level for a wonderful dance experience with this fun, playful, and popular dance style. As a prerequisite, a Beginner Latin class or equivalent is recommended. Beginner LatinIn Beginner Latin, we introduce basic steps & technique in International Style Rumba & Cha Cha, including New Yorkers, Underarm Turns, and Cross-body Leads. No experience necessary, all dancers are welcome! Intermediate LatinFor Intermediate Latin, we add more complex figures to our International Style Rumba & Cha Cha and introduce elements of Latin dance style & technique. As a prerequisite, a Beginner Latin class or equivalent is recommended. Intermediate-2 LatinFor Intermediate-2 Latin, we add rhythm changes along with more complex amalgamations to our International Style Rumba & Cha Cha. In addition we will continue to develop elements of Latin dance style & technique. As a prerequisite, Intermediate Latin or equivalent is recommended. Advanced LatinIn Advanced Latin, we add more complex amalgamations to our International Style Rumba & Cha Cha and further emphasize elements of Latin dance style & technique. As a prerequisite, a Beginner Rumba class or equivalent is recommended. Advanced RumbaIn Advanced Rumba, we experience the Silver Level International Style syllabus figures and amalgamations, with an emphasis on Latin dance technique. As a prerequisite, Intermediate Latin or equivalent is recommended. Advanced-2 RumbaIn Advanced-2 Rumba, we experience the Silver and Gold Level International Style syllabus figures and amalgamations, with an emphasis on Latin dance technique. As a prerequisite, Advanced Rumba, Advanced Latin, or equivalent is recommended. Beginner SalsaIn Beginner Salsa, we introduce both Mambo and Cucaracha style movements, along with a variety of turns and spins. Some dance experience is recommended, but beginners with no dance experience are welcome. In addition, dancers should be in very good physical condition for this highly aerobic dance. Intermediate SalsaIn Intermediate Salsa, we introduce more complex figures and amalgamations, including a variety of Arm Loops, spins, and solo movements. As a prerequisite, a Beginner Salsa class or equivalent is recommended. In addition, dancers should be in very good physical condition for this highly aerobic dance. Beginner SambaIn Beginner Samba, I the teach basic steps including the Whisk, Walks, Bota Fogo, and Volta movements. Beginner Latin, or equivalent recommended as a prerequisite. Intermediate SambaIn Intermediate Samba we add more complex figures, including the Samba Reverse Turn, Volta Criss-Cross, and Shadow Bota Fogo. As a prerequisite, Beginner Samba or equivalent is recommended. In addition, dancers should be in very good physical condition for this highly aerobic dance. Advanced SambaFor Advanced Samba we add more Silver level figures, including the Back Bota Fogos, Contra Bota Fogo, Rolling of the Arm, and circular Voltas. Advanced-2 SambaFor Advanced-2 Samba we add more Silver level figures, including the Alternating crosses, Corta Jaca, Samba Rolls and Swivels. Swing Dance - Swing includes a wide array of dance and music styles. The term "Swing Dance" was adopted as an outgrowth of the Big Band "Swing" music era of the 1930s & 1940s. However over time, different "Swing" music styles became prominent, and accordingly various regional dance styles followed. These styles include Lindy Hop (the original swing dance), East Coast, West Coast, Carolina Shag, Balboa, Jitterbug, Jive, and other dance styles.Beginner East Coast SwingIn Beginner Swing, we teach the basic 6-count single-step for East Coast Swing, swing dance position, and a variety of turns. No experience necessary, all dancers are welcome! Intermediate East Coast SwingFor Intermediate Swing, we introduce triple-step and add more stylish turns, patterns, and amalgamations to your Swing repertoire. An Intermediate Swing dancer should be comfortable with basic steps and turns in single-step, 6-count - East Coast Swing. Intermediate-2 East Coast SwingFor Intermediate-2 Swing, we continue to develop triple-step technique, introduce rhythm changes, add more stylish turns, patterns, and amalgamations to your Swing repertoire. An Intermediate Swing dancer should be comfortable with basic steps and turns in triple-step, 6-count - East Coast Swing. Advanced East Coast SwingIn Advanced Swing, we continue with rhythm changes and syncopations, and add more advanced step amalgamations (including Lindy Hop movements), and triple step technique attributes. An Advanced Swing dancer should be very comfortable with a variety of steps and turns using triple-step in 6-count, East Coast Swing. Advanced-2 SwingIn Advanced-2 Swing, we take the students existing skills and introduce elements of amplitude and athleticism to the Swing, Jive, and Lindy Hop movements. This class is for avid Swing dancers only. We balance a variety of step amalgamations with technique to really take your Swing to another level. An Advanced-2 Swing dancer must be very fluent with a wide variety of steps and turns, syncopations, rhythm changes, tempos and foot patterns. In addition, dancers must be in excellent physical condition for this highly aerobic dance. Beginner West Coast SwingYou may ask, "What is West Coast Swing"? Well, West Coast Swing is a very stylized Swing dance, which is danced to slower tempo music. WCS is characterized by slot movements, taps and shuffles, coaster steps, and the push & pull action of the dancers, all with a much smoother "blues-ie" style and feel than East Coast Swing. Intermediate Swing or equivalent is recommended as a prerequisite. Beginner-2 West Coast SwingFor Beginner-2 West Coast Swing, we continue to develop technique, add more stylish turns, patterns, and amalgamations to your West Coast Swing repertoire. An Intermediate West Coast Swing dancer should be comfortable with basic steps and turns in West Coast Swing. Beginner West Coast Swing, Intermediate ECS, or equivalent recommended as a prerequisite. Intermediate West Coast SwingFor Intermediate West Coast Swing, we continue to develop technique, add more stylish turns, patterns, and amalgamations to your West Coast Swing repertoire. An Intermediate West Coast Swing dancer should be comfortable with a variety of 6 count patterns and the basic 8 count whip. Beginner-2 West Coast Swing, or equivalent is recommended as a prerequisite. Intermediate-2 West Coast SwingFor Intermediate-2 West Coast Swing, we introduce syncopations, and some silver level figures, while continuing to develop technique, while adding more stylish turns, patterns, and amalgamations to your West Coast Swing repertoire. An Intermediate-2 West Coast Swing dancer should be comfortable with a variety of 6 count and 8 count patterns, several whip combinations, and slot movements. Intermediate West Coast Swing, or equivalent is recommended as a prerequisite. Beginner JiveJive is the International Style of Swing and is characterized by high knee action, quick movements, and a pronounced bounce to the figures. In Beginner Jive we will focus on basic movements and techniques at the Bronze level. Intermediate East Coast Swing or equivalent is recommended as a prerequisite. Intermediate JiveFor Intermediate Jive, we continue to develop technique, add more stylish turns, patterns, and amalgamations at the silver level to your Jive repertoire. An Intermediate Jive dancer should be comfortable with basic steps and turns in the Jive. Beginner Jive, or equivalent is recommended as a prerequisite. Beginner HustleIn Beginner Hustle, we teach the basic figures for Hustle (disco style dancing) including the wheel, inside turn, and "you go, I go, you go". Beginner ECS or equivalent recommended as a prerequisite. Beginner-2 HustleIn Beginner-2 Hustle, we review the basic figures for Hustle (disco style dancing), and add some fun new turn combinations including the cross body lead and the grapevine. Workshops - Our workshops are a more flexible and free form version of group dance lessons. Workshops are "pay as you go" and encompass multiple dance styles to give you more flexibility with schedule and lesson content.How is a "Workshop" different from a regular Group Dance Lesson? Our regular group lessons are a progressive 3 or 4-lesson series. With a Workshop, each lesson stands alone so you can pick the lesson or lessons that best meet your schedule and dance needs. Each Workshop has a theme (Ballroom, Swing, or Latin), but will not be redundant within a particular theme.Beginner Dance WorkshopYou may ask, "What is a Beginner Dance Workshop"? Well, a Beginner Dance Workshop is an introduction to Ballroom, Swing, and Latin dance styles. My emphasis for this series is on basic dance movements, musicality, and participation. Each week, we will emphasize a different dance style, such as Swing, Ballroom, or Latin (and others) with a focus on "getting out there and dancing". Intermediate Dance WorkshopYou may ask, "What is an Intermediate Dance Workshop"? Well, an Intermediate Dance Workshop is a more structured review and technique focused lesson series for "Advanced Beginners", and Intermediate to Advanced dancers. Each week, we will emphasize a different dance style such as Swing, Ballroom, or Latin (and others) with an emphasis on technique and styling as we review figures, and introduce new figures in various dance styles. Advanced Dance WorkshopYou may ask, "What is an Advanced Dance Workshop"? Well, an Advanced Dance Workshop is a more freestyle review of technique and styling for the Intermediate to Advanced dancers. Each week, we will emphasize a different dance style such as Swing, Ballroom, or Latin (and others) with an emphasis on technique and styling as we review figures (and add new figures) in various dance styles. My permission is required for enrollment, so please email me if you are interested. Advanced-Intermediate Technique WorkshopYou may ask, "What is an Advanced Technique Workshop"? Well, an Advanced Technique Workshop is focused on repetition and drills to enhance your dance technique. Foot position, rise-fall-sway, hip action, arm movements, frame, lead-follow, etc. will be emphasized. Each week, we will stress a different dance style such as Swing, Ballroom, or Latin (and others) with a highlight on technique and styling. Intermediate and Advanced level dancers are welcome in this workshop.
